4th Grade Class Rules and Schedule

Rules, rules, rules!!

Each class will have their own set of rules, but here is the overview.

1. Be polite and respectful.
2. Do what is asked and expected of you the first time.
3. Be safe.
4. Have fun!

If a child chooses not to meet these expectations, then the situation will turn into a learning experience. :) This is teacher discretion.

Consequences include: demerits, recess time taken away, or other loss of privilages. Most of the time students will receive a warning before a demerit is given. However, there are some circumstances where students will automatically receive a demerit. Students can also lose recess time, especially when assignments aren't finished.

Please be aware that any student in 4th grade with missing or late assignments will be given a demerit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Demerits

Students will be given demerits for infractions at school. These are teacher discretion. Missing assignments or breaking a class rule will always result in a demerit. The student will be given a demerit slip that they will need to fill out. They will take it home and have to get it signed by a guardian. It will need to be retuned the next school day. If it is not returned the next day, the student will either receive another demerit or lose 15 minutes of recess depending on his/her teacher. If it is not back the next day, then the student will receive another demerit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homework

The students will have homework! It varies from day to day, so double-check the agenda each night. If a homework assignment is late or missing the student will automatically get a demerit. This is a 4th grade rule also. Make-up work for students who are absent or tardy will be given a due date. We try to be very fair with this. :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Planners/Agendas and Folders

Planners must be signed EVERY night between Monday and Thursday (yes, even if there is no homework). Planners will NOT need to be signed on Friday because there is never homework on the weekend! Fourth graders are learning accountability and will be responsible for their own planner. We will spot check their planners every once in awhile. If you have any problems with your child's planner please let us know.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Folders

Each student receives a silver plastic folder. They will keep all of their homework assignments, study guides, and papers going to and from home. They will take it home every day.

Friday Folder

Each student will have a Friday Folder. This folder will contain a behavior report for the week and graded papers. Please sign their behavior report and please look through the graded papers and let us know if you have any questions about an assignment or a grade. We do make mistakes from time to time. (It's hard to believe, I know. :) :) :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4th Grade Jag Club

This is a club to reward students for their great behavior. It is a movie party that is held once every nine weeks. Students are allowed to bring beverages and snacks of their choice. Please no energy drinks though. Students will get to sign up for a movie. Please make sure we are aware of any rules you may have at home about movies.

All students are automatically in Jag Club at the start of the nine weeks. Students who have six or fewer demerits at the end of the nine weeks will stay in Jag Club. Students with seven or eight demerits will go into a lottery for a chance to stay in Jag Club. Students with nine demerits or higher will not be a part of Jag Club. These students will be placed in a study hall to do work while the others enjoy the movie. All student should work their hardest to stay in Jag Club!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Progress Reports and Graded Papers

Parents have access to view their child's grades anytime they wish at home through Engrade or Star Portal. Also, Progress Reports will go home half-way through each nine weeks.

Graded papers will be sent home in a packet each Friday. This entire packet is yours to keep.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Snacks and Water

Please check with your child's teacher for the classroom policy on snacks and water.

Since we have a fairly late lunch we will have a morning snack. Students can bring a snack of their choice. Please keep in mind that these need to be healthy. No juice boxes or colas are allowed during snack time, only water. Students may bring a water bottle to keep at their desks. No flavored water please. When this spills, it leaves the floor super sticky.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Birthday Celebrations

Students are allowed to bring in anything they would like for their birthdays. It is very helpful if plates and needed utensils are also sent. The treat will need to be eaten during our regular snack time instead of at lunch. This makes it easier on the cafeteria staff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scholar Dollars/JAE Bucks

Student will earn Scholar Dollars/JAE Bucks throughout the year. They can earn these by being polite, doing what is asked of them, being a great friend, answering a question, etc. They can be fined for breaking classroom rules also. They must keep up with their own Scholar Dollars/JAE Bucks. Students will have designated times to spend their Scholar Dollars/JAE Bucks in a class store.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grades

We offer parents a chance to see all of their student's grades online. It is very private and you would be the only one that could see it since it is password protected. You can login at any time of the day and see all of your child's grades and missing assignments. It even has a link so you can send us a message if you have a question. There are no report card surprises with this! To see the grading scale, please click here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clip Chart

In fourth grade your child will use a "Clip Chart" to keep up with their daily behavior. The "Clip Chart" is a colorful chart with clothespins on the side. Your child will have his/her own clothespin. If your child is noticed doing the right thing in class, he/she will move their clothespin up one spot on the chart. If your child has made a poor choice, he/she will move their clothespin down one spot on the chart. There are seven spots on the chart: Outstanding, Great Job, Good Day, Ready to Learn, Think About It, Teacher's Choice (your child could owe recess time, receive a demerit, etc), and Parent Contact. In addition to these spots there is Top of the Chart and Off the Chart for exceptional behavior. There will also be a Below the Chart.

All students will start on Ready to Learn at the beginning of each school day. They will move up and down the chart throughout the day. At the end of the day, the spot where the clothespin ended up will be recorded. Every Friday (or the last day of the school week), you will receive your child's Friday Folder which will show you where your child ended up on the "Clip Chart" everyday that week. Friday Folders will also have your child's graded papers in them. Please sign the Friday Folder and return it each Monday (or the first day of the school week). Demerits will be given for any Friday Folder not returned on Monday (or the first day of the school week). Each day your child's clothespin is at the Top of the Chart or Off the Chart they will receive a stripe on their clothespin. After your child has 5 stripes they will upgrade to a bronze clothespin. When their bronze clothespin receives 5 stripes, they will upgrade to a silver clothespin. When their silver clothespin receives 5 stripes, they will upgrade to a gold clothespin. When their gold clothespin receives 5 stripes, they will earn a reward party and will have a glittered clothespin.
