Mrs. Mexic's Class Rules and Schedule

Rules, rules, rules!!

1. Be polite and respectful.
2. Do what is asked and expected of you the first time.
3. Be safe.
4. Have fun!

If a child chooses not to meet these expectations, then the situation will turn into a learning experience. :) This is teacher discretion.

Consequences include: demerits, recess time taken away, or other loss of privilages. Most of the time students will receive a warning before a demerit is given. However, there are some circumstances where students will automatically receive a demerit. Students can also lose recess time, especially when assignments aren't finished.

Please be aware that any student in 4th grade with missing or late assignments will be given a demerit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Demerits

Students will be given demerits for infractions at school. These are teacher discretion. Missing assignments or breaking a class rule will always result in a demerit. The student will be given a demerit slip that they will need to fill out. They will take it home and have to get it signed by a guardian. It will need to be retuned the next school day. If it is not returned the next day, then the student will lose 10 minutes of recess. If it is not back in 2 days, then the student will receive another demerit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homework

The students will have homework! It varies from day to day, so double-check the agenda each night. If a homework assignment is late or missing the student will automatically get a demerit. This is a 4th grade rule also. Make-up work for students who are absent or tardy will be given a due date. I try to be very fair with this. :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Planners/Agendas and Folders

Planners must be signed EVERY night between Monday and Thursday (yes, even if there is no homework). Planners will NOT need to be signed on Friday because there is never homework on the weekend! The first two times a planner is not signed is considered a warning. The third occurrence and each one after will result in a demerit. This is a 4th grade rule.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Folders

Each student receives a green plastic folder. They will keep all of their homework assignments, study guides, and papers going to and from home. They will take it home every day.

Friday Folder

Each student will have a Friday Folder. This folder will contain a behavior report for the week and graded papers. Please sign their behavior report and please look through the graded papers and sign the top paper. Make sure to return the entire stack.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4th Grade Jag Club

This is a club to reward students for their great behavior. It is a movie party that is held once every six weeks. Students are allowed to bring beverages and snacks of their choice. Please no energy drinks though. Students will vote on the movie to watch.

All students are automatically in the Jag Club. When a student reaches their sixth demerit for a six weeks they are taken out of the Jag Club. These students will be placed in a study hall to do work while the others enjoy the movie. All student should work their hardest to stay in Jag Club!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Progress Reports and Graded Papers

Parents have access to view their child's grades anytime they wish at home through Engrade. However, a detailed report will go home on the first day of the fourth week in each six weeks. This will show where a student stands at the half-way point of the six weeks. These will need to be signed and returned.

Graded papers will be sent home in a packet. This entire packet (not just the top sheet) will need to be signed and returned.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Snacks and Water

Since we have a fairly late lunch we will have a morning snack. Students can bring a snack of their choice. Please keep in mind that these need to be healthy. No juice boxes or colas are allowed during snack time, only water. Students may bring a water bottle to keep at their desks. No flavored water please. When this spills, it leaves the floor super sticky.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Birthday Celebrations

Students are allowed to bring in anything they would like for their birthdays. It is very helpful if plates and needed utensils are also sent. The treat will need to be eaten during our regular snack time instead of at lunch. This makes it easier on the cafeteria staff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scholar Dollars and Checkbooks

Student will earn Scholar Dollars throughout the year. They can earn these by being polite, doing what is asked of them, being a great friend, answering a question, etc. They are paid a salary if they have a classroom job. They can be fined for breaking classroom rules also. They must keep up with a checkbook each day to show how many Scholar Dollars they have. At the end of the six weeks we will have a Scholar Dollar store. This is a BIG hit!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grades

I offer parents a chance to see all of their student's grades online. It is very private and you would be the only one that could see it since it is password protected. You can login at any time of the day and see all of your child's grades and missing assignments. It even has a link so you can send me a message if you have a question. There are no report card surprises with this! Please see the Engrade sheet for more details. Also, a paper copy of the mid-six weeks report will go home at the middle of each six weeks. To see the grading scale, please click here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homeworkopoly

Students will have a chance to play a game called Homeworkopoly every Friday (or the last day of the week). Students who turn in ALL assignments on time for a week will get a roll on our Homeworkopoly board.

Each student will have a game piece. They will then roll the die and move their playing piece, just like Monopoly.

If a student lands on a colored space, then they do nothing. If they land on:

Community lunchbox- Draw a special card to see what you win.
Brain Binder- Don't get your mind in a bind when you answer this question. If you get it correct, you get to get a prize out of the Scholar Dollar store
Library- Pick the people to sit on the couch for DEAR time one day.
Take a seat on the bus- This is like the "Go to Jail" space on the Monopoly game. Do NOT pass go. They must go directly to the "on the bus" space. You stay there until their next turn.
Mystery prize- Pick a prize from basket on my desk.
Free homework- Free homework pass.
Game Spot- Computer time during DEAR time.
