All About Mrs. Mexic

My name is Kaci Mexic, but you may know me as Kaci Newman (my maiden name). I was married in July 2008. I am 24 years old. This will be my 3rd year to teach at JAE. I love to teach and love JAE. It is such a great school! I met my husband, Drew, on his boat in 2005. We haven't left each other's side since then. Drew is a production manager and an industrial engineer for Electrolux.

I used to collect pez dispensers when I was a kid and have well over 500. My favorite candy is Jelly Belly jelly beans, just ask any of my past students. I love to do "artsy" stuff, but can't draw to save my life. I grew up on a computer and use technology in every aspect of life. It is the way of the future! I love to teach and can't wait for this school year!!!

I received my Bachelor degree from Tennessee State University in May 2006. My major was Interdisciplinary Studies and I am certified to teach K-8. I am highly qualified to teach K-5. My Philosophy of Education (the abbreviated version) is as follows: I believe the purpose of education is to provide students with experiences that they will learn from. These should help students develop emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. I believe that education involves more than Math, Science, History, Reading, and English. To me, it includes students accepting responsibility for themselves, building character, being able to think independently from their peers and other personal traits. I will provide a classroom where expression is welcomed and creativity and individuality is fostered. I believe that students learn best when they are taught using different techniques. I try to mix techniques to benefit auditory, visual, and tactile learners and also those who learn best from a mixture of these techniques. Technology is something that is constantly around us, but is ever-changing. I plan to incorporate these into my curriculum, so that students become comfortable working with them. I believe that if students are comfortable with these, then they will be more likely to utilize them in their learning.
